Sainik School Purulia
is one of the 24 Sainik Schools in the country and the only English medium residential
public school in the state of West Bengal.

It was established in the year
1962 under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence for the benefit of the
comparatively weaker sections of the society and for the removal of regional
imbalances in the officers cadres of Defence Services in India. The school is situated in
the idyllic foreground of the Ayodhya Hills, covering an area of 279 acres of
land on the Purulia-Ranchi Road, 04 km away
from Purulia town, which is a district headquarters.
The main aim of the school is to prepare its boys mentally, physically and academically
through a balanced curriculum for a career in commissioned ranks
of the Armed Forces through National Defence Academy, besides making them ready with
adequate leadership potential and confidence to take up the challenging professions in other
important walks of public life and also to become good and useful citizens of
